This week we give thanks to our members and business supporters with special programming for the Thanksgiving holiday, featuring of course – food, and some outstanding musical performances to help get you through your day in the kitchen.
9-11 AM: Turkey Confidential: On the day even non-cooks are busy in the kitchen, the Splendid Table’s “Turkey Confidential” is ready to help on air and online. In addition to the 2-hour live radio call-in from 9-11 AM, they’ll host a live chat, stream the audio online, take questions over the web, and showcase some favorite recipes. The call-in # is 1-800-537-5252. We’ve heard callers from the KSUT listening area in prior years, and hope to this week. Joining host Lynne Rossetto Kasper of the Splendid Table are international chef and food advocate Jamie Oliver, wine author Joshua Wesson, and others.
11-noon: Bruce Springsteen – The Promise Fulfilled Radio Special
This radio special explores the inside story behind the vault of previously unreleased Springsteen tracks collected for “The Promise”. Features music and conversation and plenty of great songs. On a related note, KSUT will be featuring “The Promise” over the next 2 Fridays, at noon.
12 noon: Alice’s Restaurant
KSUT continues the tradition of bringing you Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant on Thanksgiving – a musical monologue, based on a true story that began on Thanksgiving Day 1965. We’ll follow that with a Blend of songs for the holiday.

1-4 PM: Live performances from the Newport Folk Festival
NPR Music recorded and archived some incredible performances at this past summer’s Newport Folk Festival. We’re happy to bring you three exceptional one-hour sets on Thanksgiving Day:
1:00 PM: Sam Bush
Hear the Grammy-decorated bluegrass great and his ace backing band perform a rousing set from last summer’s festival.
2:00 PM: John Prine
The legendary folk-rock singer-songwriter performs a career-spanning live set.
3:00 PM The Swell Season
The Oscar-winning duo, discovered in the independent film “Once”, delivers a gripping and unpredictable performance at Newport this year.
4:35 PM: Bailey White – NPR continues their annual Thanksgiving tradition with storyteller Bailey White’s tale called “A Kind of Love.” This year White writes about two elderly women who live together. The pair gets into trouble one night when they recline in the backyard to look at the full moon and they get stuck. They wind up there all night, rescued by the mailman in the morning. They find the story funny, but a relative gets concerned. Changes come to the women’s lives — and not all of them are welcome in the end.
9 PM The Grass is Bluer TGIB helps us give thanks with Hugh Felt’s thematic blend of bluegrass.
