KSUT presents stand-up comedian Paula Poundstone in live performance, Saturday, February 11, at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, 7:30 pm. The event, a benefit for KSUT, will be Poundstone’s first Durango appearance. A limited number of VIP tickets, including a pre-show drink and appetizer reception with Poundstone at the Rochester Hotel and premium seating are now available here.

The Boston Globe said, “Poundstone improvises with a crowd like a Jazz musician…swinging in unexpected directions without a plan, without a net.” Paula is so quick and unassuming that audience members at her live shows often leave complaining that their cheeks hurt from laughter and debating whether the random people she talked to were “plants”. This One’s For Him: A Tribute to Guy Clark

Houston’s Icehouse Music has released “This One’s For Him: A Tribute to Guy Clark” in celebration of Clark’s 70th birthday.

The tribute includes 30 tracks by 33 Americana artists who are friends and colleagues of Clark or who have been influenced by his remarkable compositions.

“Let’s give her a good go and make ol’ Guy proud of us…” said Rodney Crowell kicking off the collection on the first day as he readied to record “That Old Time Feeling.” The double CD set was recorded live in studio with a core house band that included multi-instrumentalist Shawn Camp, guitarist Verlon Thompson, & pianist Jen Gunderman. The tribute was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee and Austin, Texas with a rotating cast of other musicians including multi-instrumentalist Lloyd Maines, bass players Glenn Fukunaga, Mike Bub and Glenn Worf, and drummers Kenny Malone and Larry Atamanuik.

Folks mostly laughed throughout the sessions. Swapped stories. Enjoyed company. Picked and grinned like those dusky evenings over at Guy and Susanna’s near Old Hickory Lake in the 1970s. Fittingly, Crowell issued our collective mission statement the very first day.

The collection was produced by grammy-winner Tamara Saviano —who is also working with Clark on his definitive biography—and frequent Clark co-writer Shawn Camp.

Clark was born in Monahans, Texas on November 6, 1941.

KSUT to carry President Obama’s State of the Union Address and NPR’s special coverage

KSUT will broadcast President Obama’s State of The Union Address Tuesday evening (1/24), along with NPR’s live anchored special coverage beginning at 7 PM. Melissa Block will host. She’ll be joined in the studio by NPR National Political Correspondent Mara Liasson. NPR’s special coverage will feature reporting and reaction from their correspondents on Capitol Hill, as well as analysis of the speeches from correspondents and outside contributors.

KSUT’s Streaming Signal

We have recently been experiencing some technical problems with our streaming signal. It turns out that the hard drive is beginning to fail on our streaming computer causing a “drop” or disconnect of the KSUT audio stream. We have a new machine on the way and hope to have it up and running by the end of the week. Our apologies to those of you who rely on the stream to listen to KSUT. Please bear with us for the next few days and we should be back up and streaming soon. You can still stream at the moment but the signal is intermittent and tends to drop out frequently. Again, we will have a consistent stream sometime this week. Thanks for your patience!

NPR Music, WGBH and WBGO once again present Toast of the Nation, a broadcast of live jazz from venues across the U.S. The broadcast checks in with live music from Boston to Los Angeles, and celebrates midnight in four U.S. time zones. Many of the live performances will be recorded and archived at NPR Music, via npr.org/toastofthenation. WBGO’s Rhonda Hamilton anchors the broadcast, with additional voices along the way. KSUT will carry the broadcast from 9-12 midnight beginning with Wynton Marsalis in New York City.
