The crowd at last night’s Ed Abbey celebration at Maria’s Bookshop was standing-room-only and just about everyone stayed to listen to the long and impressive lineup of presenters even though the thing lasted over an hour and a half.

And even after the presentation was over, a handful of folks spilled into El Rancho to talk about Abbey late into the night.

Below are a few excerpts from last night’s very good presentation, which touched on Abbey’s love of the Southwest, Abbey’s influence on a new generation and the environmental movement and Abbey’s less-than-perfect treatment of women in both his real life and his books, and included specials guests Ken Wright, Kate Niles, M. John Fayhee and the one-and-only Art Goodtimes.
