Durango Bluegrass Meltdown weekend is upon us – enjoy!

Check out this classic video clip of “The Outta Hand String Band” playing a sidewalk gig in front of Animas Trading during Meltdown 2005.

Since 1995, a volunteer group of local acoustic music devotees have been presenting The Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, an extraordinary and lovable little festival. The Meltdown features three unique, intimate main stages, a super jam, barn dance (Durango style), Saturday night Celtdown, and music flowing from bars, restaurants, coffee houses, and downtown streets and sidewalks – and don’t forget the workshops. The festival is based out of the historic Strater Hotel where jamming and merriment goes on into the wee hours of the morning.

This year’s lineup of national, regional and local bands includes: Audie Blaylock and Redline; Chris Jones and the Night Drivers; Town Mountain; Gold Heart; Riley Baugus with the Stuart Brothers; Finders and Youngberg; Blue Canyon Boys; Duke City Swampcoolers; Antero Junction; The Badly Bent; Wild Mountain; Bar D Wranglers; Waiting on Trial; Under the Radar; Blue Moon Ramblers; San Juan String Band; The Scrugglers; Jack Ten High; Colorado College Bluegrass Ensemble; Patrick Crossing; Giants Dance and Whistle Stop.

Everything you need to know is at durangomeltdown.com. Don’t miss Hugh Felt’s “The Grass is Bluer” on KSUT, Thursday evening for a preview from 8-10.

Get out there and enjoy, dance, attend a workshop, or play some live music!
