I wonder if Durango Nature Studies can help me figure out what to do with this empty planter?

From naturalist training in March to fly-fishing classes in April, Durango Nature Studies (DNS) has a list of upcoming events that will get you the heck out of your home and out into the beautiful wild.

That’s why we all live here in the Four Corners, right?  It’s easy to let the winter cold keep you indoors well into late April, but DNS isn’t having it.

Schedule follows:

Spring Volunteer Naturalist Training

Wednesday, March 18 – Fairgrounds, 6:00 – 9:00
Friday, March 20 – Nature Center, 8:30 – 4:30
Saturday, March 21 – Nature Center, 8:30 – 4:30

Join 350 alumni as a fully qualified volunteer naturalist; ready to lead science-based, nature walks with children about topics like habitats, water, plants, insects, and natural history. Volunteers will receive a 200 page manual as part of the training.  Nature walks take place at the beautiful Durango Nature Center along the Florida River.

Naturalists will be trained to lead groups of 8-12 elementary school children on weekday mornings in April and May. No prior experience is necessary, just a love of nature and kids!

Please call 769-1800 to register, or email Sally at sally@durangonaturestudies.org. Space is limited. For additional information, visit: http://www.durangonaturestudies.org <http://www.durangonaturestudies.org> .

Permaculture 101 – Wildwords Lecture Series
Saturday, March 28

In this unique half-day course, we will explore permaculture principles and methods of design using the Nature Center as a classroom. Located at the mouth of the Florida River Valley near Bondad, the Center winds along 140 acres on the Florida River. Trails wander through a wide variety of habitats – riparian, meadows, oak woodlands, piñon-juniper forests, and desert arroyos. Culture Brothers will present information to help attendees succeed in their daily endeavors and prepare for extremes of weather, food and culture. We will also have time for one or two hands-on activities, which may include a survivalist plant walk, sheet mulching, or constructing simple wind and sun breaks.
The class is from 10:00 – 3:00. Please bring your own lunch.
The cost is $20 for members and $30 for non-members.
Visit the Culture Brothers Website.
